Menstruation pain
and PMS

Menstruation is one of the fundamental mechanisms of the female body; just as breathing or digestion is for any living being. If this mechanism works fully correctly, as it naturally is meant to, there should be no pain!

This means, contrary to common belief, it is in fact not “normal” to be in pain during your period, and this pain can be treated!

However, the female cycle and thus menstruation is an extremely complex mechanism and involves many different factors in order to function completely smoothly (without pain). This means – as for the internal causes – that all the crucial organ systems involved here need to function properly. Having said that, the most common external cause for pain is coldness in all forms…

In any case, as soon as symptoms come up, the earlier you get them treated, the better. If issues are being dealt with early enough – as long as they are not yet too deep down and intertwined – the more likely it is to even be able to prevent more complicated sicknesses (such as Endometriosis, Adenomyosis etc.) from arising over time.

The highest standard of treatment in Chinese medicine is to prevent sickness from developing at all!

Here are some tips to prevent or alleviate period pain:

  • No icy cold drinks, rather warm tea
  • No swimming – for coldness, as well as hygiene reasons
  • Dress warmly (no exposure of navel and waist area!)
  • Eat warm nutritional meals
  • Rest, and try to relax
